Lewes ambulance was alerted for an unconcious person at Cape Henlopen State park in the area of the observation tower. EMT B. McClements and D. Brode arrived and were informed that the patient was at the top of the 75' World War II era concrete observation tower. They climbed the spiral stairs to the top of the tower and found the patient in cardiac arrest. EMT Brode notified Sussex EOC to alert Station 82 for manpower and Ladder 82 to respond for rescue. Ambulance Captain C. Arnold arrived first and established 82 command while Assistant Chief T. McClanahan took operations at the top of the tower. Laddder 82 arrived, set up and extended to the top of the tower. Manpower from the ladder and rescue climbed the tower to assist with patient care and packaging. A section of safety fence was removed and the patient was loaded into the bucket of ladder 82 and brought to the ground for transport to BMC.
