During a severe thunderstorm that hovered over the Lewes area Monday evening, Lewes Fire Dept. along with mutual aid from Rehoboth Beach, Indian River, Milton, and Georgetown responded to a total of 12 fire alarms. Many were confirmed lightening strikes that included two working fires and one "close call".  The first working fire was a shed in Sussex East with extension into the residence. The second fire was a lightening strike in Eagle Point, discovered and contained quickly to a small fire due to the homeowner being home.  The third fire was the worst in a separate townhouse in Eagle Point causing severe damage to one unit. This fire was discovered by fire units returning from the first Eagle Point fire as there was no one home at that residence giving the fire time to grow.
