Crews Knock Attic Fire

At 1139hrs, on February 17th the Lewes Fire Department along with Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company and the Milton Fire Department were dispatched to a reported house fire on Coastal Highway. Units responding were advised that the homeowner had smelled smoke on the second floor. 82-8 with Assistant Chief Bixby arrived on scene and established command. Engine 82-5 arrived on scene and crews investigated the second floor with the assistance of Deputy Chief Reynolds. Crews were met with obvious charring and a smoke condition in the area of a wall between a bedroom and bathroom. 82-5's crew began to hook the ceiling and found a small attic fire in the insulation. Crews advanced an inch and thee quarter handline and made quick work of the fire. The damage was contained to the attic area above the bathroom and bedroom and units cleared the scene shortly after conducting a thourough overhaul of the area.
