On October 23rd at 1709 hrs the Lewes Fire Dept. along with Medic 104, EMS 100 and Delaware Trooper 2 were dispatched to the 1600 block of Coastal Hwy. for an MVC with reported 5 patients and confirmed entrapment. 82-8 arrived on the scene reporting 2 vehicles in the median of coastal hwy with significant damage. Captain Sharp established the 82 command and advised incoming units to shut down coastal hwy North and South Bound also, advising Sussex EOC to declare a Level 1 MCI as he found a total of 7 patients. Sussex County EMS 100 was assigned to EMS branch of the scene and advised command he had 6 priority 3 patients and 1 priority 1. 1 patient was pinned in the drivers compartment of a car and crews from Rescue 82, 82-5, 82-2, and  82-9 worked rapidly to extricate the patient which was then transferred to the Delaware State Police Helicopter where they were flown to AI Dupont hospital. Route 1 remained closed for approximately 40 minutes and the scene was turned over to the Delaware State Police.
